We get asked this a lot, and the honest answer depends on what you’re actually looking for — because Wales and the South West genuinely reward different seasons in different ways.
Spring (April–May) is our pick for value and comfort in equal measure. The weather is unpredictable but often kind, everything is in bloom (Bute Park and Ashton Court both come alive this time of year), and you’ll get better availability and rates than the summer peak. It’s a good window for contractor and corporate stays too, since school holidays haven’t kicked in yet.
Summer (June–August) is when the region is at its busiest and best. Cardiff Bay’s restaurants spill outdoors, Bristol’s harbourside festivals run through the season, and long evenings mean you can pack more into a day trip. Book early if you’re after a specific property — this is when our homes fill up fastest, particularly the larger ones suited to family groups.
Autumn (September–October) is genuinely underrated. The crowds thin out, the countryside around Bath and North Wales turns properly golden, and you’ll often get a run of settled weather in early autumn that rivals summer. It’s our top recommendation for guests who want the scenery without the peak-season prices.
Winter (November–February) is quieter still, and increasingly popular with contractors and corporate guests on longer placements who don’t need the weather to cooperate to get value from a stay. Bath in particular does Christmas well, with markets that are worth timing a visit around.
