Ashton Court is the space we send guests to when they want proper countryside without actually leaving Bristol. It’s an 850-acre estate just over the Clifton Suspension Bridge, with a genuinely wild-feeling deer park (herds of both fallow and red deer roam freely), an impressive Tudor and Victorian mansion you can wander around the grounds of, and miles of trails that range from gentle family walks to serious mountain bike routes for anyone who’s brought a bike along.
It’s completely free to enter, which makes it an easy recommendation for contractor guests on a budget weekend or families needing to fill a free afternoon without spending anything. There’s a decent café near the mansion for a coffee or lunch stop, and enough space that it never feels crowded even on a busy weekend.
It’s a short drive or a longer walk over the bridge from most of our Bristol properties — worth combining with the bridge and Clifton Village as a full day out if the weather’s good. Early morning is the best time to spot the deer up close, before dog walkers and cyclists fill the park.
