Cardiff Bay is where we tend to send guests who want an evening that doesn’t feel like a tourist checklist. The waterfront itself is easy walking — the barrage stretches out toward Penarth if you fancy stretching your legs after a day of meetings, and there’s genuinely good people-watching around the Norwegian Church and the Doctor Who Experience site.
The centrepiece is the Wales Millennium Centre, an unmistakable building with Welsh poetry cut into its bronze roof, hosting everything from West End touring shows to Welsh National Opera. You don’t need tickets to enjoy it either — the foyer bars and surrounding restaurants (we rate the Mermaid Quay strip for a relaxed dinner) make for a solid night out on their own.
It’s particularly good for corporate groups wanting a proper meal after a work stay, or families looking for something a bit more special on the last night of a holiday. Best visited in the early evening when the light hits the water and the bay’s restaurants start filling up. If you’re driving over from one of our South Wales properties, there’s ample parking, and it’s a straightforward taxi ride from most of the Cardiff homes.
