For guests staying at our North Wales property near Glan Conwy, Conwy Castle is the obvious first stop — a genuinely spectacular 13th-century fortress built by Edward I, recognised as one of the finest surviving medieval castles in Europe and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside its complete town walls.
You can walk the full circuit of the walls for views over the estuary, the mountains, and Telford’s elegant suspension bridge alongside the modern road crossing. The castle interior is well preserved enough that you get a proper sense of its scale and defensive design, and it’s engaging for kids as much as history-minded adults — there’s plenty of climbing, battlements, and genuinely dramatic architecture to hold attention.
The town itself is worth wandering afterwards, with the smallest house in Great Britain right on the quay as a quirky photo stop. It’s an easy day out whether you’re based locally for a family holiday or using our property as a base to explore the wider region. Give yourself at least two hours for the castle and walls, and check the weather — the wall walk is exposed and best done on a clear day.
