A short drive from our North Wales property, the Great Orme is a dramatic limestone headland towering over Llandudno’s Victorian seafront, and one of the more distinctive outdoor spots in the region. You can reach the summit several ways — the Great Orme Tramway (Britain’s only cable-hauled public road tramway), a cable car offering genuinely spectacular views over the coastline, or on foot if you want to earn the view properly.
Once up top, there’s a country park with waymarked trails, a dry ski slope and toboggan run if you fancy something different, and a resident herd of wild Kashmiri goats that guests seem to find far more exciting than the view. Bronze Age copper mines on the headland are open to visitors too, offering a genuinely different underground experience if the weather turns.
It suits pretty much every type of guest we host — an easy, scenic outing for families, a proper walk for anyone wanting exercise, and an impressive half-day for corporate guests using our North Wales property as an offsite retreat base. Combine it with lunch in Llandudno itself afterwards, a proper old-school seaside town with a pleasant pier and promenade worth strolling before heading back.
